HSSFWorkbook problem ( Excel file / Java )

I found nothing by searching here and nothing that worked when using Google for the following problem. Can anyone help ?

Info : O/S = Linux x86_64 & Windows XP-SP3
Java = jdk1.5.0_19
POI = 3.6

File I'm attempting to read is downloaded from http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/marke...securities.xls . I need to extract some of the data from it and update a database.

I have FTPed the downloaded file ( bin mode ) from Linux to Windows and can open it with Excel ( 11.8320.8221 - SP3 ) with no problem. Not sure how to figure out which version of Excel created it but it is definately binary, not XML. I tried using XSSF instead of HSSF anyway but got a failure elsewhere.

When I try to read the file using POI ( code snippet below ) I get the error :

I also tried the following :

POITextExtractor poite = ExtractorFactory.createExtractor(is);

This produces the following error, which has me stumped. What type of file can it be ? What am I doing wrong ?

Why does DZone fail with a 500 error when I use Chrome

When I try to access DZone from Chrome I get a 500 error every time. There are no problems when using Firefox.

War takes more space

I am using GWT.
In this, WAR folder takes more memory. When i reduce my source file
also it doesn't get reduced. What are all files/folder must be needed
in WAR? Please give suggestion about needs of each file and folder?
Some of folders are images, smartG, Web-INF, sc, LS, js, pieces(In
this, Sc and Web-INF takes more space).

I attached the folder details in the following URL

In my test system I am already having War folder. In Each and every
time of testing What are all folders/files to be replaced?

Browser related issue

I am using GWT-JAVA.
The Login page displayed good in firefox.
But In IE It is too slow and also Fonts are too big.
In chrome it display only the background image. Nothing will be
display. Is it GWT a browser dependent? Otherwise Can i change any
other options or anything else? (Note: In NameFieldContainer I added
the logoImage. And In SendButtonContainer I added the login form)

I am uaing java 1.6 , I desperately wants to use closures now ,I want to use them in java file not groovy or something else, is there any closure provide which allows me to add closures to my exsisting .java files ? I donot wan to use groovy or scala becasue I have to use .groovy or .someother file and eclipse support for other files is not good please suggest me if can add closures to java files ?

future of java

hello everyone.
I was wondering what seems to be the future of java?
It seems that oracle are not that committed to enhancing jave.
Furthermore, because of backwards comparability issues, oracle cannot really enhance java in any significant way. For example, with real parametrized types and better exception handling.
So, does the future of java lay in efforts like the Apache harmony project?
Or classpath?
These implementation can break backwards compatability and implement some of the features found in the new languages such as c#, scala and so on.
What do you think?

xwork validation

I m working for service side POJO validation using xwork. I am having an action say ValidationAction.java and i have a corresponding xml file named ValidationAction-validation.xml having validation rules on fields.

As per specification and wherever i cud find,i have come to know that this xml file should be kept in the same package as the ValidationAction.java file. But since i do have many java files to go through validations and hence many corresponding xml files, i dont want to put them together in the same package. I want to have different folder/package for the xml files.

Is there any way out for this ??

Flex + j2ee

Hi,
The page refresh option need to be avoided (FLEX + J2EE).
The main intention is to handle F5(refresh) event. It works fine in Mozilla, GoogleChrome but not in IE8. When i execute the code in IE8 before the event handle by the FLEX the browser is handling the event.
So kindly let me know if there is any solution for this....

Through this link i found code to handle the events in the mxml level, as the first example(Handling keyboard events) mentioned in the above link works fine..giving the key code of what ever key you keyin,but as soon as u press F5 it refreshing the page,where this happening in IE8 only works fine in other browsers..
